The now well-known Salomon S/LAB SHIFT binding is the latest standard in freeride technology, combining the touring capability of a pin binding (low-tech) with the performance of an alpine freeride binding.

"We said to the development department that we were looking for a binding that behaves like a pin binding on the ascent and like a normal binding on the descent. In other words, the Holy Grail. The first prototypes were completely different from the final product. In the last three years we have seen a rapid development in technology and performance. And all of a sudden the power transfer was there," explains Cody Townsend, who has been involved in the process since the beginning.

Hybrid bindings are not new (see Tecton or Kingpin), but Salomon went one better here a few years ago.
The toe piece is the star of the binding.
With a lever, you transform the pin toe into a toe as you know it from alpine bindings - so you can easily step from the gondola or off-piste into the ski.
It features a lateral elasticity of 47mm, which can definitely keep up with alpine bindings and ensures a reliable release.
Anyone who now thinks that all this comes at the expense of weight is mistaken.
At 850 grams per binding, it is indeed one of the heavier pin bindings, but with the performance of an alpine binding.

And for mounting: Press the lever at the front and bang: the alpine head jumps away and you have a pin binding for touring!
